Stephen is a writer/producer/director who has made more than 20 short and broadcast films. Throughout his career, he is privileged to have worked with some of the top actors in South Africa and Australia, including Ian Roberts (Tstosi), Sean Cameron Michael (24, Black Sails) and Socrates Otto (Wentworth).
In a commercial capacity, Stephen has been directing for all screens full-time since 2008, with his work taking him to over 20 countries on five continents, servicing work for global brands such as vmware, CPNC, Lend Lease, Tomra, Topcon, Minelab, Codan, Penfolds, Flinders University, as well as blue chip Australian brands and agencies.
An alumnus of the directing program at AFTRS, his broadcast credits span drama and documentary. His most successful narrative film to date, ‘Super Sounds’, screened at over 60 festivals, winning awards and nominations at many, including San Francisco International FF, Giffoni, Flickerfest, and was selected by Virgin for their in-flight entertainment.
In 2021 he directed a half hour broadcast documentary (Ch. 7) about the life and legacy of Australian war hero and sporting legend, Bob Quinn and has recently completed his latest dramatic short, Butterfly, co-directed wth his wife, Chloe Gardner, which premiered at the worlds largest Children’s film Festival, Giffoni, in Southern Italy in July 2021, before going on to screen at the Adelaide Film Festival.
In Sept 2021, Stephen was attached to direct an episode of A Second Chance Rivals, a 10 part Netflix Original drama, shot in South Australia. At the time, the show was one of the largest productions ever in South Australia with a 12 week shoot.
He has written, and is gearing up to direct, his first feature film, a neo-noir, action thriller, slated for production in 2022.
